In response to extensive logging, the Saw Mill of the Kagi (Chiayi) Forestry Office was built during the Japanese colonial period (1914), and consisted of saw mill, power room, drying room, sawdust room, and repair room. A timber pond was also constructed. Timber was preserved in the pond to avoid cracking due to the interaction of moisture and sunlight; it also prevented pests and decay, preserving the value of the timber.
